An upstate New York man was arrested on Saturday after cops said they discovered him intoxicated in the passenger seat of his truck along with his 10-year-old kid at the steering wheel.
The Times Union of Albany reports that police said they detained John Barling, 46, after being contacted by a driver who saw the kid driving the truck on Route 9P. After they pulled the truck over, they noticed a child at the wheel and Barling intoxicated in the passenger seat, police said.
Cops said Barling was arrested for endangering the welfare of a child and permitting unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. The little one was picked up by a relative, and cops contacted Child Protective Services.
The Associated Press could not determine if Barling has an lawyer who could discuss the charges.
The arrest bears some being similar to an Aug. 9 incident in Florida, when a mother allegedly had her four-year-old son blow into a breathalyzer to start her car. Police said the woman had left her two children in the car so she could go drink in a bar.
